- Minister says one-sided accountability can plunge Pakistan into disorder
Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Friday said that elected governments in Pakistan have not been allowed to govern consistently.
Quoted by a private TV channel, he said that the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has faced conspiracies, biases and revenge from certain quarters since it took over the reigns of power at the centre. “Pakistan is being harmed more than the prime minister with the use of such tactics,” he said.
Saad said that certain foreign powers want Pakistan to become the next Syria or Egypt. “Those who give examples of Tahrir Square should take a lesson from the fate of Egypt,” he said. “Opinions of some self-proclaimed pious individuals can create chaos in the country,” he said.
He said that those who were favouring one-sided accountability can plunge the country into disorder and they should reflect on the results of their actions. “Those who are pulling the strings will be exposed in front of the nation,” he said. The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has summoned Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the prime minister, on July 5.
Hussain Nawaz, the elder son of the prime minister, has also been summoned on July 4 and his younger brother Hasan Nawaz on July 3. Hussain has appeared five times before the high-profile probe team whereas Hasan has been summoned twice already. The summons has also asked the respondents to bring forth relevant documents related to the Sharif family’s financial assets.
