The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on Wednesday, clarified that it did not issue instructions to television channels for not airing news regarding tragic terrorist attacks in Parachinar.

In a statement, the PEMRA clarified the fake news being aired by some TV channels that the PEMRA had issued instructions to TV channels not to broadcast news or comments about the tragic attacks in Parachinar.

PEMRA strongly denied such rumour mongering. At a time when the country is going through tragic incidents, irresponsible handling of sensitive issues by certain TV channels is a blatant violation of the National Action Plan and PEMRA’s code of conduct.

These few TV channels are warned to refrain from airing fake news and irresponsible comments on such a sensitive issue. Any violation of National Action Plan or PEMRA’s Code of Conduct by any TV channel would be dealt with strictly.

The PEMRA takes action in accordance with law and always makes its decision public.
