RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Education Department has announced to outsource around 10,000 government schools located across the province, including Rawalpindi Division, to the private sector.

A decision has been taken, after which the Punjab Education Department made a formal announcement to hand over the primary, middle and high school control to the private sector.

Punjab education secretary has sought a list of all the schools, which should be outsourced in this phase and process will be completed during the ongoing summer vacations.

Various teachers’ unions have also decided to stage protests against the move. Teachers’ unions’ leaders, including Rana Liaquat , Shafiq Bholia, Shahid Mubarak and Chaudhry Yaseen, were of the view that the outsourcing government educational institutions is tantamount to undermining the education system. They viewed that the academic system will be destroyed further and enrollment target set by the administration for the government schools will not be achieved due to ill-conceived policies of the PML-N-led government.
