The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in coordination with the International Training Centre of American Heart Association (AHA) will hold a three-day “hands-on workshop’ on basic life support and advanced cardia life support from May 13 to 15.
According to a DUHS press release, the course will recognise and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome. It will also help demonstrate proficiency in providing basic life support care, including prioritising chest compressions and integrating AED use. The participants of the course will be trained to manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation, termination of resuscitation or transfer of care.
They would learn to identify and treat ischemic chest pain and expedite the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes. Recognition of other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death will also be part of the training programme. The participants would be helped to demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognise the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.
The course facilitators, who are also AHA-certified instructors, will include Dr Riaz Ahmed Qureshi, Dr Amna Anzar, Dr Hasina Chagani, Dr Quratulain, Dr Qasim Ahmed and Dr Muhammad Riaz. Doctors, postgraduate trainee, faculty and consultants are eligible to attend the workshop planned to be held at the Ojha Campus of the university.
