Journalists protest violence, demand justice

ISLAMABAD: A joint demonstration was staged by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), RIUJ and NPC on the call of PFUJ leadership for a second consecutive day in front of the National Press Club against violence inflicted upon journalists and media workers in Faisalabad, Islamabad and Quetta; the issue of non-registration of FIR against the Vice-Chancellor of University of Agriculture Faisalabad was also raised, who boasts to be the cousin of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah.

Journalists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, participated in the demonstration with their families and children. Pakistan People’s Party Secretary Information Mustafa Nawaz Khokar also attended the demonstration.

The protest leadership has given a deadline of 24 hours to the government for taking action against those responsible for violence against journalists belonging to Samaa TV, OneTV, ARY News, Dunya TV, and Channel 24; otherwise they threaten to stage protest demonstration in front of the Parliament House, Prime Minister’s House and Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

The security of the journalist community was demanded to assure them that they will not be targeted with impunity.
