Reema and the Lahore Zoo authorities had a slight tussle on Monday when the authorities blamed her for not paying the money for the deer foals she had adopted a month ago. Reema, a prominent Pakistani actress who had been named as the Wildlife Ambassador, countered these accusations saying that ambassadors all over the world were paid instead of being asked for payment.
However, she gave no reason as to why she had not yet paid the money.
“I am receiving calls from the lower staff of the zoo who have been threatening me to pay in cash or they will give this news to the media,” said Reema. “I will not pay in cash because I should know where the money is going – I will pay according to the law.” She 0did not specify when she would pay.
The actress is apparently in ‘debt’ for about Rs 40,000.
One deer, says Dr Saman Bhatti, costs Rs 20,000 per year for adoption. Reema has adopted two. Dr Saman also said that the actress has not been involved as such in any zoo activities, while the Zoo Director Dr Zahid Bhatty also condoned this.“Reema has been invited for an upcoming event of Punjab University adopting a baby tiger. She may come if she wants to.
But she has not paid her due for one and a half months now,” said Dr Bhatty. “She is also quite disinterested in zoo and wildlife activities as she has not visited the zoo since she was made the ambassador neither has she promoted issues of wildlife.”
