LAHORE: Pakistan’s first ever win against traditional rival India in ICC Champions Trophy enthralled Lahoris as they took to the roads to celebrate the victory with full enthusiasm.
Pakistan stood at the victory stand in Champions Trophy for the first time after proving their critics wrong and beating India by 180 runs.
Citizen of all ages including girls, boys, women and kids came out to the roads of Lahore on Sunday soon after Pakistan won the match by dismissing the last Indian batsman JJ Bumrah.
Cricket lovers wearing Pakistan’s flag cheered and roared together, as they drove through Mall Road which seemed to be the centre of celebrations as cricket fans danced, cheered and raised slogans in favour of their team.
Sweet shops began to be filled with customers in no time as well as people were keen to share the moment with their beloved ones.
Bikers also featured on the streets as they never miss out of a national celebration.
There were plenty of fireworks as well which had begun as soon as the Indian innings began pummeling and it became clear that victory was imminent for Pakistan. Lahore’s Liberty market, Lalak Jan Chowk and Dubai Chowk in Iqbal Town witnessed a great rush of citizens as well.
Talking to Pakistan Today, a citizen Hameed, who was celeberating with his family, said that he was hopeful that Pakistan would after a high target of 339 had been set for India. Others present shared his sentiments.
The celebrations lasted for about three hours around the city.
During the course of celebrations, all roads coming to Charring Cross remained closed as there was no possibility to pass through the spot.
