SRINAGAR: Indian Police have arrested the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik, in Srinagar on Friday.

According to the KMS, the police took Yasin Malik into custody from the party office in Aabi Guzar area of Srinagar and sent him to Kothi Bagh police station to prevent him from leading anti-India demonstrations.

The authorities have also placed Hurriyet leaders, including Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Mukhtar Ahmed under house arrest or in police stations to prevent them from leading the demonstrations.

The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for peaceful demonstrations after Friday prayers to protest against the brutalities of Indian troops in Kashmir, particularly in Shopian, where people were subjected to severe torture and vandalism after they celebrated Pakistani team’s win over England.

The demonstrations were also aimed at protesting against the raids of Indian National Investigation Agency on the houses of Hurriyat leaders.

Meanwhile, the authorities have also suspended Internet services across the Kashmir valley.
