Hundreds of protesters under the banner of the All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) gathered in front of the Punjab Assembly on Monday. The protestors were holding banners and placards and started their protest from the General Post Office (GPO) Roundabout. They chanted slogans against the Punjab government, demanded a salary raise and beat their chests. In Multan, a protest started from the Punjab Forest Department building and culminated near the Circuit House. Protesters said that clerks were being paid very low salaries.
Clerks in Quetta demonstrated in front of the press club. APCA office-bearers said that price hike has badly affected poor segments of society. Protesters said that salaries should be increased in accordance with price hike and contract employees be immediately regularised. APCA Lahore President Haji Irshad said that clerks would surround Parliament House on April 28 if recommendations of the Pay and Pension Committee would not be implemented in the upcoming budget.
