RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Government has decided to begin checking medicines supplied to all the government hospitals located across the Punjab including Rawalpindi.

The Government is setting-up raiding teams which will conduct surprise checks of hospitals to verify whether the required and certified medicines are available.

According to media reports, a team has been established under Rawalpindi Medical University Vice-chancellor Professor Umar for allied hospitals while MS focal Person Hospital Deputy Secretary will also be part of the team. Others members of the team include AMS Store and notified area drug Inspector and notified Police Inspector.

According to sources, these initiatives are being taken because no prior action has been taken against private medical stores and pharmaceutical companies supplying fake medicines.

A large number of fake medicines are available in private hospitals across the province.

According to figures, over 50 percent medicines available in private hospitals are fake and non-registered. The owners of private hospitals are complicit in the manufacturing of substandard drugs and their supply to the patients.
