FO urges India to respect 2003 ceasefire arrangement

  • Foreign Ministry summons Indian diplomat over LoC violations

Director General for South Asian and SAARC at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammad Faisal on Monday summoned India’s Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian forces.

The Indian forces violated the ceasefire at Chirikot and the Hot Spring sectors on June 10 and 12 respectively. According to a Foreign Office announcement, the ceasefire violations resulted in the martyrdom of one civilian in Chirikot and two others in Hot Spring and injuries to three in Hot Spring Sector.

The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws. The director general urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement.

Dr Faisal also urged India to investigate incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the arrangement in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the Line of Control.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Indian troops initiated unprovoked heavy weapons including mortar firing targeting civil population along the Line of Control in Jandrot and Hot Spring sectors on Monday.

The military said that two citizens including Waqar Younas (18) and Asad Ali (19) resident of Bhabra village embraced martyrdom while three others were injured due to the Indian firing. The injured were included Muhammad Shahbaz (30), resident of Bhabra village, Shumaila Khurshid (35) and Hafsa Shabbir (14), residents of Chakrali village.

The Pakistan Army effectively responded on the Indian posts firing on civilians. Reports of damage to Indian posts and casualties.
