Senate Special Committee on Marginalized Segments of Society Monday recommended increase in the financial assistance for the reconstruction of damaged and partially damaged houses in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The committee met here at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Nisar Muhammad. Members of the committee Senators Sajjad Turi, Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, Sitara Ayaz, Samina Abid, Robina Irfan and Robina Khalid also attended the meeting.
The committee recommended the government to allocate an amount of Rs 5 billion as special package for the affectees of terrorism. Convenor of the committee Nisar Muhammad said Ministry of Planning & Development and Ministry of Finance should prioritise the needs of marginalized segments of the society during preparation of budget.
He also said the data of orphans, widows, disabled and shemales and other segments should be officially compiled. He said through this step it would be easy to allocate funds on equal basis to all segments of the society.
Earlier, senior officials of Ministry of Planning and Development briefed the committee about the district-wise poverty profile of the provinces including marginalized groups. The committee was also briefed about the efforts undertaken by the federal government in addressing the financial difficulties being confronted by the affectees of terrorism including details of total budget allocation and expenditure during the last three years by the federal government.
