Pakistani student remains critical after encountering hit and run accident in New York

A second-year Pakistani student at Columbia University remains critical after a hit-and-run accident in Manhattan, USA, NBC reported.

Shariq Jumani, 19, was struck by a Sedan on June 5 while crossing a road past midnight. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical head injuries, fractured bones in both his legs and internal bleeding in his abdomen.

He has undergone open-brain surgery, abdominal surgery, orthopaedic surgery for his legs, but a number of surgeries are still pending.

According to New York’s PIX 11 news, the driver turned himself in and was identified as Brayard Arno, 28. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operator.

Family and friends set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for Jumani’s medical costs that are expected to be $500,000. They have so far raised about $126,000.
