Despite closure of markets and offices and a decline in power consumption, load shedding remained as high as ever in the city on Sunday making lives of consumers miserable. There were seven to nine hours of load shedding in urban areas and 12 to 14 hours in rural areas. Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) sources put the shortfall at 2,800MW as power production remained around 11,500MW and demand at 14,500MW.
Citizens said that there has been no significant activity in the city and power demand decreased because of closures of offices and markets but even then there is no relief from power outages. “People often have to do many tasks on the weekly holiday but due to continuous load shedding nothing could be done,” banker Sadeed Athar said, outages were witnessed for one hour after every two hours.
