NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi greeted each other in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, sources said Friday.

The two prime ministers met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit where India and Pakistan are going to be inducted as full members of the bloc, in its first ever expansion since its inception in 2001.

This was the first occasion when the two leaders spoke in person after December 2015 when Modi made a surprise visit to Lahore to attend Sharif’s granddaughter’s wedding.

Sharif had called Modi shortly before he was wheeled in for an open-heart surgery in May 2016 in London.

On Thursday, sources say Modi enquired about Sharif’s health and that of his family who he had met during his surprise visit to Pakistan.
