KARACHI: The Karachi administration, following the culmination of grace period given for voluntary removal of encroachments on University Road, Thursday afternoon, initiated a crackdown against encroachments on Hasan Square to Safoora Goth roundabout.
Karachi Commissioner Ejaz Ahmad Khan, in an announcement, said that the 24 hours ultimatum ended at 3 pm which was followed by a joint operation under the supervision of Karachi-East Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nadeem Abro.
The operation against encroachers was said to be jointly undertaken by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) anti-encroachment cell and police department.
The Karachi commissioner, while chairing a meeting to review the strategy adopted for the operation in his office on Thursday said that indiscriminate measures must be taken against encroachments.
He emphasised that strict vigilance must also be ensured so that encroachments may not re-emerge and stringent action be taken against culprits trying to re-encroach the surrounding footpaths or shoulder areas.
Ejaz Ahmad Khan said that government is committed to providing a needed relief to the people; therefore, has directed that no leniency be granted to those trying to compromise infrastructure development on University Road.
No hindrance to smooth traffic flow be allowed nor any inconvenience to citizens be tolerated, directed the Karachi Commissioner.
He said, as per directives of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the operation against encroachments on University Road will be brought to its logical end.
The meeting among others was also attended by the Karachi Additional Commissioner Farhan Ghani, Karachi East Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Nadeem Abro, Technical Services Director General Niaz Ahmed Soomro and others.
