Ministry of Water & Power has now admitted that unannounced power load-shedding of electricity was carried out in various parts of the country and suspended officials concerned of five power distributing companies (DISCOs) besides initiating immediate disciplinary proceedings against these officers.

Admitting unannounced power outages, the ministry said that higher number of the load management duration than the announced schedule was carried out by the LESCO, GEPCO, FESCO, IESCO and MEPCO. The water and power secretary directed the immediate suspension of six SDOs besides taking disciplinary proceedings against these officers.

“The Ministry of Water and Power is all committed to providing maximum relief to the consumers at all levels,” the ministry said. The suspended SDOs include Suhail Saeed, Shahar Yar, Faizul Hassan Kazmi, Khalid Mahmood Iqbal, Malik Irfan and Muhammad Ahmed Ali, according to the ministry.

The ministry has formed special vigilance teams at PEPCO level to conduct surprise visit/checking of different areas in all the distribution companies to ensure enforcement of the announced power load management plan. And these teams have so far conducted a visit of various distributors and unearthed that higher number of the load management duration than the announced schedule was being done in five DISCOs.

The ministry said that the PEPCO and PITC teams were activated to work in close coordination with the district administration and the Federal Complaint Cell to check areas. According to the ministry, these teams are conducting in-depth analysis and are having close coordination with the district administration, the federal cell and other related agencies besides a ground visit to collect information on various feeders.
