‘Govt allocates Rs 300m for installation of hand pumps in Punjab’

The Punjab government has allocated Rs 300 million for installation of hand pumps in various parts of the province during the next fiscal year.

The step has been taken to provide drinking water facility for the people living in far-flung areas, Punjab Minister for Local Government Muhammad Manshaullah Butt said this here on Sunday.

He said that provision of clean drinking water, sanitation and other civic amenities to people is top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government. He said that social sector had got 32% share of the annual development programme in the budget 2017-18.

He said that Rs 5 billion had been allocated for regional development programme for less-developed districts. He said that these initiatives show commitment of the government towards the poor and ignored segments of society.

The provincial minister said that due to sagacious economic policies of the government, Pakistan was moving on the road to progress successfully. “Volume of national economy has crossed the threshold of $300 billion during the outgoing financial year; overall economic growth remained 5.28pc, which was the highest in the last 10 years, while per capita income has also increased from $1531 to $1629.” He said that the government was pursuing an agenda of public service and it has won hearts of people due to its financial management and effective policies.
