Secretary General Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch has said that the Punjab budget for the next financial year is a routine budget that is shortsighted and looks only to benefit the government in the upcoming general elections in 2018. He said that it has provided no relief to the masses.

Speaking at an Iftar dinner at Ghaziabad, he said that no mechanism had been proposed to check the price hike, adulteration or the production of sub-standard products. There is an increase in the loans and payable debts in the budget, he said. Adequate funds have not been provided for the education and health sectors and the demands of the protesting young doctors, teachers, clerks and paramedics have not been considered. The budget does not, he said, suggest any remedy for the rampant power outages in Faisalabad.

Liaqat Baloch said that the corruption mafia is busy in slander in order to obstruct the process of accountability. However, he said that the masses were fully awake and they would definitely win the war against corruption.

The JI central leader; however, said that the respect for the armed forces, the judiciary and the political leadership must be maintained and the social media activists should not indulge in mischief. The political leaders and members of the parliament should remain, he added, within the limits of decency and self-respect. Likewise, he said, the state institutions and the honourable judges of the superior judiciary should keep in mind the sensitivity of the present situation along with the far-reaching impact of their remarks.

He said that Ramzan is the month of individual and collective reformation. He said that the profiteers were the enemies of the masses and the society. All those running after personal gains by exploiting the general public were doing a disservice to the nation. However, he added, if the consumers all over the country were organised, they could overpower the profiteers.
