Akhuwat, Walled City Authority, Punjab AIDS Control Program introduce new project

The Walled City Lahore Authority, Akhuwat and Punjab AIDS Control Program have introduced a new project “Sahat, Taleem-o-Hunar” for health awareness, hygiene, beautification and interest free microfinance support for the poor in the Walled City of Lahore.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) among the three partners was signed at the PACP Complex, Birdwood Road Lahore here on Thursday.
Director General Walled City Lahore Authority Kamran Lashari, Executive Director Akhuwat Dr Amjad Saqib and Program Director Punjab AIDS Control Program Dr Adnan Zafar Khan signed the milestone agreement, which provides collaboration framework for the integrated development in the Walled City.
“Initially, the project will be introduced in two union councils of the walled city where an integrated package of health education and awareness, vocational training and soft loans will be provided to the residents of the area,” said DG Walled City Lahore Authority Kamran Lashari.
Executive Director Akhuwat Dr Amjad Saqib said, “This project provides a great opportunity and will incorporate a package of services from health to livelihood and we hope Akhuwat will make a difference in lives of the marginalized communities of the walled city.”
Program Director PACP Dr Adnan Zafar Khan said, “The PACP will be providing free medication to HIV, Hepatitis C, patients and vaccination to Hepatitis B patients and treatment and counseling to all high risk groups in the province. On our part, we will set up centres in selected localities and work on an awareness initiative”.
The project will be set up at centres setup in selected sites and will provide complete package with medical facilities and vocational training. The project will be extended to the entire walled city from the current scale of two union councils.
