PEMRA issues notice to TV One over Sahir Lodhi’s show

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show cause notice to TV One for its Ramzan transmission ‘Ishq-e-Ramazan’ dated May 28, 2017. In the said programme host Sahir Lodhi held the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah responsible for deaths of those martyred during the partition of the subcontinent.

The said programme is a violation of section 20 c and f of PEMRA Ordinance 2002, Section 15(1) of PEMRA Rules 2009 and clauses 5, 3 (1) (a) and 17 of the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

PEMRA has directed the management of the channel to explain its position regarding the said violation in Ramzan transmission within 3 days ie till June 5, 2017.

PEMRA has also directed the chief executive officer of TV One to appear for a personal hearing on June 5, 2017. Incase of non-compliance, ex-parte proceedings shall be initiated against the channel.
