Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon has asked Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to put the name of Hussain Nawaz into the exit control list (ECL) if he has courage as investigations are underway against the prime minister’s son through the Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

“If he (Nisar) did so, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will never de-seat him,” he said while talking to journalists after hearing of a reference case of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Memon claimed that his name was placed on ECL at a time when there was not a single case registered against him.

“Now inquiry is being carried out in Panama Papers scam against Hussain Nawaz,” he said, and questioning that would the interior minister dare to put his (Hussain) name on ECL. The Accountability Court took up the NAB reference case for hearing on Tuesday filed against Sharjeel Memon and others.

During the course of hearing, counsel for Memon took the plea that documents of reference were not completed and the sequence was also not correct, therefore it was difficult to understand the reference. On it, the NAB counsel said that the investigation officer would deliver all related materials, as other suspects were busy in court proceedings.

The counsel for Memon said that his client was not feeling well, therefore, it was prayed to the court to allow him to go after which the court allowed him to leave. After the hearing, Memon said that people were in great distress due to unannounced load shedding of electricity. “Karachi is in far better condition in terms of power outages as compared to rural areas of Sindh,” he said.

Criticising the federal government, he said that that ‘monarchy’ was reigning over the country. He claimed that the government was registering false cases against rivals. To a question, he said that names of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members should also be put on ECL as investigations were underway against them as well.
