Jamaat e Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has strongly condemned the use of force to crush public protests against load shedding and said this could have serious consequences.

In a statement here, he expressed deep resentment over the killing of a youth by Levies’ firing in Dargai on the rally against load shedding. Sirajul Haq said the prolonged load shedding had falsified the government assurance that there would be no load shedding during Ramzan.

He also slated the federal government’s attitude towards the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and termed it unjust. He said that many areas of KP were without electricity although it was the biggest producer of electricity. He said the federation was not giving due profits of power production to the province.

The JI chief said that the shortfall of electricity had not been met even after the commissioning of the Sahiwal coal plant, Nandipur and Bhikki power plant.

He said that the people of KP, Sindh and Balochitsan had grievances against the center and felt that all the country’s resources were being controlled by the federation and the Punjab.

Sirajul Haq said that as long as the big electricity thieves were not hauled up and the line losses were not controlled, the power crisis could not be overcome. He urged the government to trace the electricity thieves in its own ranks and improve the transmission system.

He demanded immediate arrest of the killer of the youth in Dargai and the release of those taken in custody. He also appealed to the people not to get provoked and avoid damaging government property and installations.
