Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday criticized the national assembly’s opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar’s demand of resignation from the president and the prime minister and said resignations should start from issues as old as the Kargil conflict.
She was talking to reporters after the inauguration ceremony of National Cultural Database Center here at lok Virsa.
“Chaudhry Nisar must keep in mind that their leadership didn’t resign during Kargil conflict, so why is he demanding resignations from President Zardari whereas every one of us is fully aware of what happened,” the federal minister said.
Replying to a question regarding the demand of resignation by the former minister and Pakistan People’s Party MNA Shah Mahmood Qureshi, she replied that politicians should not further demoralize the public by giving incorrect statements. She further said the statement of Shah Mahmood was a party matter and party would take notice of the situation in its parameters, adding that Qureshi was a part of all the talks between US and Pakistan.
She cautioned politicians not to use Osama Bin Laden’s death for their personal interests. “Today, all the political parties should set aside their own interests and just think about the country’s welfare because the public eye is on everyone,” she added. She informed that in the next session of parliament, All Parties Conference would be called after consultation.
Firdous further informed that civil and military leadership were evaluating everything regarding the US operation in Abbottabad and a detailed report of the whole operation would soon surface. “The military and civil leadership would take every step in country’s interest” she added.
Responding to a question regarding India’s stance which was fraught with allegations on Pakistan, Information minister said that; “We would respond accordingly if India tries to damage the image of Pakistan”, adding that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani would also contact the Indian premier in this regard.
