District administration and Provincial Tobacco Control Cell jointly observed “World No Tobacco Day” here on Friday.
In this connection, a function was also held to create awareness against the use of tobacco. Those who attended included Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Fayyaz Sherpao, Assistant Commissioner (AC), Mohammad Mughees Sanaullah, Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) Bashir Ahmad, Project, Coordinator, Ajmal Khan, DSP (Rural) Zar Wali Khan, AVO Bismillah Jan and others.
The participants were given detailed briefing regarding the injurious effects of the use of tobacco through multi-media. The participants were told that the government had not only banned tobacco smoking in public places, rather those violating the ban would face stern action.
The participants were further apprised about penalties in this regard and selling cigarettes to persons below the age of 18 years is prohibited. The Deputy Commissioner said that people can be got rid of the effects of the tobacco smoking through creating awareness, saying it is need of the hour to create awareness and tell the people regarding losses from the cigarette smoking.
He said that law will take its course against those smoking cigarette in public pace and in this connection all Additional Assistant Commissioners (AACs) have also been directed.
At the end of the function a walk was also organized to create awareness against smoking while Deputy Commissioner beside all officials of the district administration also participated in it.
