Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that strong Bar is necessary for a strong and independent judiciary. Addressing a delegation of Human Rights Committee of Punjab Bar Council who called on the CJP at Supreme Court Branch Registry here, he said both the bench and the bar were integral part of each other and the contribution of the bar strengthens the judiciary to decide the cases in accordance with rule of law. Therefore, he said, both should join hands and maintain the momentum of the struggle to give relief to the aggrieved parties and protect and fundamental rights of the public at large.
The members of the delegation assured the CJP to minimize the strikes and intimated him that as and when any issue or problem arises, they resolve it locally and try that there may be no strike at their level best so that the cases of the litigants and precious time of the Courts may not suffer.
The CJP appreciated struggle and effort at the hands of the bar.
The members of the delegation of the Human Rights Committee requested the CJP that the Human Rights Committee of the Punjab Bar Council may be allowed to visit prisons for protection of detenus and poor litigants so that legal aid may be provided to them. They offered their services on voluntary basis to argue the cases of poor and indigent prisoners who are not in position to engage the lawyer.
