In the aftermath of the dispute settlement between the two students group, the management of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has decided to resume its academic activities today.
Acting Registrar Prof Dr Imtiaz-ud-Din said that QAU would resume its academic activities on Thursday; however, the entry in the hostels would be upon confirmation of personal identity and satisfactory search of allotted rooms.
It is pertinent to mention here that QAU had been closed sine die and students were asked to vacate hostels forthwith soon after clash erupted between two groups of students belonging to Sindh and Balochistan on May 20.
However, the university management decided to reopen the university after rapprochement between members of the two groups.
Sources said that they held out assurance to the university management that no such incident would be reoccurring ever again.
However, they said that actually the students’ groups settled their dispute because of possible action by the management against them. Although, the university management vowed that the students responsible for violence would not be spared, as they would be dealt according to university disciplinary rules.
“The University deeply regrets the violence erupted on the campus on May 20, by two student groups,” Acting Registrar Prof Dr Imtiaz-ud-Din said.
He said that a committee of senior faculty members has been formed and assigned the task to investigate the matter and submit recommendations to avoid any such situation in the future.
He said that the admissions of the office holders/bearers of Mehran and Baloch councils have been suspended with immediate effect and their cases have been forwarded to the University’s disciplinary committee for further investigations and final decision.
However, all those nominated in the FIR would face the course of law. In case of mobilisation of students for any kind of illegal activity on the campus, the involved students would be rusticated from the university immediately.
It is worth noting that over two-and-a-half dozen of students were injured during a clash between members of Sindhi and Balochi students. As a result, VC Dr Javed Ashraf issued a notification that the classes at QAU have been suspended till further notice. However; the university would remain open for the staff and faculty.
Despite the fact that QAU being the top ranked university in the country, however, news often broke about the eruption of student groups.
