Pakistan Army and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have established a joint public safety cell to keep the province and federal administered tribal areas (FATA) safe and secure from extortion and threatening calls by terrorists/terrorist groups, it was learnt from sources.

Official sources in anonymity informed Pakistan Today that a joint public safety cell would start functioning within the next few days in order to keep KP and FATA secure from extortion and threatening calls from the terrorist groups too. The cell would take action on complaints and information purely related to the extortion (Bhatta) and threatening calls by terrorists/terrorist groups. They said the cell would keep complaints and information secret and respond immediately. Reports/complaints could be registered around the clock through help line number 1425, or by sending text message or through Whatsapp on 0333-3331425 or by email to [email protected]. Furthermore, application could be downloaded for the registration of complaints or for providing relevant information, sources said.

The sources further informed that Military Intelligence (MI), Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) and KP Police have established this combined cell. Also, Peshawar Corps Commander would direct the cell and the entire budget of the cell would be provided by the Pakistan Army/Peshawar Corps.

It is pertinent to mention here that to keep KP and FATA safe, the Joint Public Safety Cell of Pakistan Army and KP Police would assist the common public from exploitation in the hands of terrorist/terrorist groups. People of KP province and FATA have been found complaining against threatening calls from terrorists and terrorists groups for a long time. These terrorists used to make phone calls from the telephone numbers of Afghanistan to terrorise the residents of KP and FATA to receive heavy extortion. Even, some terrorists demanded extortion in the name of ‘Jihad’ also. However, this unique cell is expected to root out the menace of extortion mafia from KP and FATA in the larger interest of public.
