20 blasts rocks Afghan Kandahar province, 16 injured

Twenty blasts rocked Kandahar province in south Afghanistan on Saturday, leaving at least 16 injured, local official said.
“Since the beginning of Taliban’s attack in Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province at 01:00 a.m. local time today, 20 blasts including two suicide bombings and remaining rocket- propelled grenades rocked the city,” a police officer said but declined to give his name.
Meantime, spokesman for provincial administration Zalmai Ayubi asserted that 16 people, including 10 civilians and six policemen sustained injuries.
Ayubi also said the gun battle is still going on between the security forces and attackers.
Taliban militants attacked provincial Governor Office and some more places this afternoon. He said more details would be released later.
Meanwhile, Qari Yusuf Ahmadi who claims to speak for Taliban outfit in talks with media via telephone from undisclosed location said that several armed fighters including suicide bombers entered government buildings and have inflicted huge casualties.
Kandahar, the birthplace of Taliban militants, has been the scene of increasing militancy over the past few years. Taliban outfit in a surprise move excavated a 320-meter-long tunnel enabling over 500 inmates to escape from Kandahar prison weeks ago.
