PPP reorganising party at grassroots level

The ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has started making efforts for reorganising the party at grassroots level to restore the party’s contact with the people and to evaluate party members’ merits before the forthcoming general elections. In this connection, Chief Minister and PPP Sindh President Qaim Ali Shah started holding party meetings of district chapters on Friday.
The chief minister presided over meetings of district-level party leadership of Kashmore, Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts at the Chief Minister’s House.
Party office-bearers, members of the Sindh Assembly and Members of the National Assembly of these districts were also present at the meetings.
These meetings have been commenced through special instructions of President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
President Zardari had convened a meeting of the party’s provincial leadership in Islamabad recently. A day after returning from Islamabad, the chief minister held a meeting of selective party leaders and ministers. It has been learnt that Zardari had directed the party’s provincial leadership to give special attention to constituencies and resolving problems of the common people.
Sources said that President Zardari had also advised the party’s leadership to invite more influential people from different areas to join the party. According to an official handout, the chief minister stressed upon elected representatives and party office-bearers to develop contact with the masses and make efforts for redressing their grievances. The chief minister said that specific development schemes would be initiated in the next Annual Development Programme to alleviate poverty from the society and provide the unemployed youth with job opportunities.
He highlighted the achievements of the present government during the past three years, saying that distribution of free land to female haris, the Benazir Income Support Programme, the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme, and various projects of the Health, Education, Communication, Information Technology and other sectors have brought remarkable changes in the society.
The meeting was also attended by PPP Ladies Wing Chairwoman Faryal Talpur, federal minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Gul Muhammad Khan Jakhrani, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Coordinator to CM Siddique Abu Bhai, Special Assistant to CM Waqar Mehdi, Secretary to CM Alamdin Bullo, PPP-Kashmore President Mukhtiar Ahmed Sohriani, and PPP-Kashmore General Secretary Nisar Ahmed Khoso.
The participants of the meeting discussed problems faced by the people in the district and took decisions about providing relief to the common man in the district. Later, similar meetings of Jacobabad and Shikarpur districts were held, and were attended by Mir Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, Aisha Khoso, Mir Hasan Khoso, Mir Mehboob Ali Khan Bijarani, and Ghulam Muhammad Shalyani.
