After the successful conclusion of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) presidential elections, decisions will be taken in the larger interest of the community with consensus of all members of the body, SCBA presidential candidate Asma Jahangir said on Monday, while claiming to ‘change the justice system within one year if elected president’.
Addressing a big gathering at a reception hosted in her honour, the renowned lawyer said that she was in the run to end that suffocation which still persisted despite the lawyers’ two years struggle for the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
She said that strengthening the bar would be one of her three objectives besides working for the welfare of the community and giving the lawyers smooth access to the SC. A large number of senior members including Ali Ahmad Kurd, Justice (r) Tariq Mahmood, Khawaja Sultan Ahmad, Kazim Khan, Talib Haider Rizvi, Malik Saeed Hassan, Ashraf Wahla, Israrul Haq Mian, Dr Khalid Ranjha and Nasrullah Warriach were present on the occasion.
