80 squads constituted for quick response to counter untoward situation

Islamabad police have constituted 80 ‘muhafiz’ squads to ensure protection of lives and property of citizens and respond quickly to counter any untoward situation.

A ceremony was formally held on Thursday, to motivate the personnel of these squads towards their professional duties. The ceremony was attended by Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Khalid Khattak, SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani, all SPs, SDPOs and SHOs.

These squads would ensure implementation of Islamabad police to check street crime, control car theft as well as bike theft and ensure quick response in case of any public complaint or untoward situation.

Addressing the personnel of ‘muhafiz’ squad, IGP Islamabad Muhammad Khalid Khattak said that this force has been constituted for quick response following a strategy devised by SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani to combat crime effectively. He exhorted the police officials to interact with people in a sober manner so that their confidence in police may increase. He said that this will help bridging the gap between the police and public.

IGP urged the personnel of these squads to demonstrate professional attitude during their duties and maintain complete information about their areas.

Mr Khattak directed them to remain alert during their duties and keep eyes on suspects and criminal elements. He also asked to keep records of stolen vehicles and bikes with themselves and adopt courteous as well as decent attitude with public.

Islamabad police chief also asked the personnel to keep their uniforms clean, take care of their official items and respond to communication system immediately. He said that expectations were high with these squads and he hoped that personnel would deliver to the best of their capabilities and they would accomplish their duties in a responsible manner.

IGP urged to curb activities of criminal elements with hard work as it will enhance confidence of people on police. He said that personnel and officials of Islamabad police represent the entire force. He expressed that doing work for the good would boost the perception of the police in the eyes of public.

The IGP also appreciated the personnel of the force for performing duties for more than 12 hours for public safety.

On the occasion, SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani said that these squads had been constituted to ensure effective security of the city and prevention of crime. He stated that each squad would consist of two motorbikes which would patrol on streets to curb street crime. He said that each policeman will have weapons, ammunition and wireless sets during their duties in various beats of the city.

SSP Islamabad said that barrier points were decided in the city as per security plan earlier, which helped in the reduction of crime rate. He said that ‘Muhafiz’ squads had been constituted to further improve this security plan.
