The case of building a family park at the place of old prison faces a deadlock between the lawyers community and government. Lawyers want to construct a judicial complex while government wants to build a family park.

According to sources, the government has planned to shift the courts while lawyers have planned to construct judicial complex at the old prison place.

Earlier, the district jail was shifted to Muhabatabad. Government had allotted 80 kanals for constructing the judicial complex against the will of lawyers.

PTI Peshawar Region General Secretary Omar Farooq Kakakheil told Pakistan Today that lawyers did not agree with the written agreement. He told that the provincial government would construct a family park there and release an amount of Rs37 million.

However, lawyers have rejected the decision and demanded the establishment of a judicial complex instead.

District Bar Association (DBA) President Islam Wardag said that the office bearers of the last cabinet held meetings one and half years ago with District Development Adviosry Chairman Iftikhar Ali Mashwani and other lawmakers of then ruling party on this issue. He said that lawyers stood on their demand while government wanted to build a judicial complex on the land acquired opposite the new central jail building in Mohabatabad.

However, he claimed that the issue was resolved then and the government had agreed with the office bearers of the previous DBA cabinet of not shifting the courts from the city centre.
