KARACHI: Citizens have been paying a heavy price as diseases are spreading fast in Karachi, because the civic authorities have failed to improve sanitary conditions of the city and remove garbage hills from its streets.

Dengue, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis and chikungunya cases are on the rise in the city and low-income people are finding it very difficult to sustain expenses of getting their ailing family members properly treated. In hot weather, rotting garbage has also created a foul smell in many localities.

Citizens complain that the government is not paying attention to the civic issues like sanitary conditions. Though the government is trying to introduce garbage lifting system in the city with some Chinese contractors at whooping costs but the ground realities seemed still unchanged, and Karachi is still a Kachra-chi.

The citizens think that the apex courts may kindly take a suo moto notice of the worsening sanitary conditions in the city and order the relevant authorities to improve the situation on a war footing.
