Beauty contest for buffaloes held in Swat

SWAT: For the first time in the country, a beauty contest for buffaloes was arranged in Swat to highlight the importance of high-class breeding.

Adviser to Chief Minister for Livestock Muhibullah Khan said the Azikheli breed of buffalo was facing extinction and objective behind this event was to create awareness among people about the importance of breeding the animal.

The two-day event which concluded on Tuesday was sponsored by International Animal Research Council wherein around 200 buffaloes of Azikheli breed were brought to participate in this contest.

This platform would provide valuable information to farmers regarding bringing up this profitable breed and help increase its number, the advisor went on to say.

The owner of the buffalo obtaining the first position was awarded a cash prize of Rs75,000, while the second and thirds position holders’ owners received Rs50,000 and Rs25,000, respectively.
