Pakistan’s birth rate is increasing rapidly and the population may reach 310 million by the year 2050, health expert Dr Agha Zahir Gul said.

Speaking at a seminar at Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education (DIHE) Karachi, he maintained that effective population planning is necessary, especially in rural areas, an official of the institution said on Sunday.

The health awareness seminar was organised by DIHE’s faculty of science in collaboration with Marie Stopes Society Pakistan at DIHE main campus.

While discussing the ongoing health conditions of the children, Dr Gul maintained that 44 per cent children under the age of 5 are stunted, which leads to mental complications for a child, especially lower IQs.

DIHE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi welcomed Dr Gul at the campus. She advised the youth to take health precautions at this age seriously since the country is dependent on them.
