Punjab finance minister reviews recoveries of non-tax revenue

Punjab Minister for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha presided a meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday in which the recoveries of non-tax revenue during March 2016 till March 2017 were reviewed along with the estimates of revenue in the next quarter; before the preparation of budget 2017-18 is announced. Special secretary finance, while giving briefing to the provincial finance minister, told that the non-tax recoveries of communication and works, agriculture, education, health, livestock and home department have improved as compared to the recoveries of last year. He further informed that most of the departments had almost achieved their targets that were fixed in the budget and will achieve, entirely, their fixed targets at the end of the current financial year. The departments that showed poor performances were also identified, whereas, their representatives were made to provide a briefing. The finance minister, while expressing satisfaction over the performance of education, health, agriculture, communication and works, mines and minerals and home department said that the provincial government is specifically focusing on education, health, agriculture and infrastructure. She said it is imperative that the concerned departments also pay attention to enhance their capacity-building.

She said that these departments should not only meet their own expenditures but also increase the resources of the province so that maximum facilities could be provided to the common man. Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha directed the departments that were failing to achieve the targets of non-tax revenue to improve their performance. She also assured assistance for resolving their problems.

She said that all of the departments can improve their performance by minimising chances of leakage through automation in the recovery system. The minister further said that the targets of non-tax revenue in the next budget will be fixed in consultation with the concerned departments.
