Four bogies of Quetta-bound Jaffar Express Tuesday derailed near Gujranwala as passengers remained safe except injuries to some.

Pakistan Railways sources quoting initial reports said the train driver found the track uneven near Aminabad Mor and he immediately applied the break.

At least 13 passengers were brought to DHQ Hospital Gujranwala, where 10 of them were discharged after treatment. So far, no loss of life has been reported.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique expressed sorrow over the incident and directed the officials to ensure rescue activities, besides providing immediate help to the passengers.

He also directed early clearance of the track and the alternate train arrangement if required.

Railways Chief Executive Officer Javed Anwar, Divisional Superintendent Sufyan Sarfaraz Dogar and other officers were monitoring the situation from the control room.

The reason behind the accident would be ascertained after a detailed inquiry; the report would be presented in 72 hours, the sources said.

Jaffar Express was going from Peshawar to Quetta. It is pertinent to mention here that Tezgam crossed the same point about 50 minutes ago and reached Lahore safely.
