Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Syed Khursheed Shah Tuesday asked the government to appoint Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) at the earliest for ensuring transparency in public accounts.

He adjourned the meeting of PAC until the appointment of new AGP.

The PAC met here to discuss audit objections regarding the accounts of Ministry of National Food Security and Ministry of Water and Power.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Arif Alvi and Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati pointed out the vacant post of AGP, saying the new AGP should have been appointed before the PAC meeting.

MNA Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, however, informed the meeting that the government had written a letter to the Supreme Court of Pakistan for taking oath from the new AGP.
