LAHORE
The British government will continue to extend cooperation with Punjab in the education and health sectors as well as supporting the province in its anti-terrorism initiatives, British Interior Minister Theresa Mary May said on Sunday.
May made these comments when she called on the Punjab CM here in the provincial metropolis. After meeting Shahbaz, the British interior minister, along with her team, attended a meeting of the Punjab Security Board at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed upon the fact that enhanced cooperation between the British government and the province of Punjab would translate into stronger ties between Pakistan and Britain.
The chief minister expressed hope that the international community would fulfill its responsibilities regarding the ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities, as any negligence in this regard might lead to the flood victims’ alienation and turning towards extremism was a stark possibility.
He said the government and people of Punjab were thankful to the British government, the people and the expatriate Pakistanis for extending help and assistance to the victims of the worst floods in the country’s history. Shahbaz said that although the floods had adversely affected the provincial economy, the Punjab government would achieve all development targets at any cost.
He said the government was focusing on the uplift of the education sector and revolutionary measures had been taken in this regard. Shahbaz said that the establishment of the Danish Schools was a landmark project of the Punjab government.
