Khwaja Asif asks students to spread peace through tolerance

Minister of State for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Sunday urged students to follow the teachings of Islam and acquire correct knowledge to curb incidents of hate, torture, and violence in society.

Addressing ceremony participants after distributing laptops among 300 students at the University of Gujrat (UoG), Sialkot campus, he strongly condemned the violent incidents which recently occurred in the University of Punjab and Abdul Wali Khan University.

He said that the entire country should play its role in spreading the light of knowledge everywhere to shun hate and ignorance present in society.

Khawaja Asif said that the lack of education and knowledge had ever developed and promoted violence in all societies, saying that the country had to battle against ignorance, extremism, and militancy by promoting education and knowledge. “We should be committed to make all out and sincere individual and collective efforts to transfer the legacy of love, affection, unity, peace, tolerance, patience, and brotherhood to our coming generations”, he added.

The minister said that it was need of the hour that terrorism, extremism, militancy, and religious sectarianism should be crushed with full force, adding that Islam was a religion of peace.

Asif said that the promotion of quality education was the top priority of the government and that students were the future of nation.

He said that the government was encouraging students at every level by providing them advanced educational facilities and laptops, enabling them to serve the nation.

UoG Vice Chancellor Dr Ziaul Qayyum, MPAs Gulnaz Shujaat Pasha and Ch Ikram, MLA – AJK Chaudhry Ishaq, UoG Sialkot Campus CEO Rehan Yiunas, UoG Sialkot Campus Chairman Faisal Manzur, Students Affairs Director Kaleem Raza, Sialkot Deputy Mayor Ch Bashir, PML-N Sialkot District President Idrees Ahmed Bajwa, PML-N Sialkot District General Secretary Shujaat Ali Pasha, students, and faculty members were also present during the ceremony.
