Here is the complete text of Mashal Khan’s father’s speech:

“The police were here and asked me if I had some reservations. I was not there. I don’t want to blame anyone but there are cameras installed in the university. It was not only my son that was killed and other children that were injured but the writ of the government itself has been challenged.

The government should investigate for its own sake and when it does that, my issue will be addressed in that process. He was my kid. I had brought him up. Everyone knows from my town, my neighbourhood knows if any of my kids had said something objectionable, I am responsible. Whenever he used to come home and we used to talk about religion, he used to give the reference of the Holy Prophet.

He was a journalist and if he ever criticized this system, he did it by comparing with the social justice of the era of Hazrat Umar. I would like to give this message to everyone. Fathers like us, in our poverty, brought up our kids and educated them, sent them to Russia and spend money on them. His mother had asked him to come back to the village. He said his Saturday and Sunday were off so he would come on Friday. And here he is.”
