Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Supreme Court has remarked that damage to even a single historical building due to orange line metro train project is intolerable.

SC’s five-member bench presided by Justice Ejaz Afzal, comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat, Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, and Justice Mazhar Alam took up the orange line metro train project case for hearing on Thursday.

During the course of hearing, counsel for citizen organisation Asma Jehangir took the plea that allaying the reservations on constructions is the job of government, and the government does not even understand the importance of historical heritage. Nobody is allowed to park even a Tonga within the 200 feet jurisdictions of historical buildings but the No Objection Certificate has been issued for the metro train, she said.

Justice Maqbool Baqir remarked historical heritage is a property of people of Pakistan. Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the train could be run straight but it has been diverted for the sake of safety. On this Asma replied if the government and court are satisfied then we have no objection.

Justice Ejaz remarked it is not the case of giving and take we will review the case from every aspect. We can reach any conclusion after looking into all the aspects. We will review all legal aspects for the dispensation of justice.

Justice Sheikh Azmat remarked a historical building was also destroyed at the time of construction of panorama market but it doesn’t mean that the remaining buildings would also be destroyed.
