Hundreds and thousands of college teachers across Punjab including Rawalpindi have not been paid even a penny against their salaries for the last 7 months.

According to reports, the Punjab government had appointed hundred and thousands of college male and female teachers including lecturers, college teaching internees, CTIs on contract basis all over the Punjab and fixed their monthly salaries as Rs 30,000 but only one month has remained in completion of their agreement and not a single penny has been given to them.

The provincial government had inducted these teachers for 8 months from October 2016 to May 15, 2017 instead of one year to save the salaries of summer vacations and now their contract period is near to completion.

There are 2 to 8 contract lecturers working in different colleges of Rawalpindi and this way their total strength runs into thousands all over the province. All these teachers belong to middle class and most of them are only breadwinners of their respective families. ‘Non-disbursement of salaries to us since the last 7 months is tantamount to starving us and our families to death’, said a group of these teachers.

The families of these teachers have appealed to the Punjab CM to take personal interest into this crucial matter and order for disbursement of pending salaries to them.
