The AnneMarie-Schimmel Haus in affiliation with the Goethe-Institut launched German Jazz 2011 on Tuesday. The two day long festival will be supported by a photographic exhibition and concert. The history of German Jazz will be displayed in the photographic form during the exhibition. These photographs have already been displayed all over South Asia including Karachi and the exhibition will continue from May 3 till May 15 at the gallery of the National College of Arts.
Berlin based German Jazz musicians of the “Jonas Schoen Quartett” will also perform live today at 8pm at the Peeru’s Café. Exclusive invites for the event are available at the Lahore chapter of the AnneMarie-Schimmel Haus. The first book with the word Jazz in its title was published in Germany during the 20s. Several Jazz musicians moved to US when the Nazis closed down Jazz centers in 1935. Jazz was also presented in dance form by the dancer, Josephine Baker in 1925.
