RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan has said that Pakistan Army supports democracy in the country.

He was speaking at an event about PTI’s Billion Tree Tsunami project.

His remarks came hours after he met Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, according to Inter-Services Public Relations.

“The only thing I would like to say about the meeting is that the good news is that the army chief stands by democracy,” Khan said.

The tweet by DG ISPR initiated a debate on the social media about the possible reasons.

DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor in his tweet said Imran Khan congratulated General Qamar Javed Bajwa on his promotion and appointment as the Army Chief.

“I am happy that the Khyber Pukhtunkhawa government has taken up this momentous task of dealing with climate change and has taken a hands-on approach towards it,” he said.

“I know it is hard to trust our statistics after the government regularly lies to you, but I can assure you the project will end by the end of 2017 and one billion trees will have been pirated by that time,” he said about the tree project.

Imran Khan and General Bajwa also discussed various other matters at the meeting, DG ISPR added.
