Pakistan Tehrik-e- Insaf (PTI) MPA Khurrum Sherzaman on Friday expressed concerns over the reports of hazardous water provided in 13 districts of the province.

Speaking on a call attention notice regarding a report of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), he was of the view that the 13 districts include Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Badin, Tharparkar, Hyderabad and six districts of Karachi division.

Elaborating on this, he claimed that PCRWR since 2005 continuously collected water samples and tested for 300 times and found no improvements.

Khurrum further claimed that due to unsafe drinking water 0.1 million cases of diarrhea were reported in 2014 in government hospitals.

Replying to the call attention notice, Sindh Minister for Local Government (LG) Jam Khan Shoro said that Sindh province is located at tail-end and sewerage water of upper areas also flow here.

Sub-soil water of the province is also not sweet and “the situation is not 100 per cent ideal,” he accepted, adding that the report which had been submitted to the apex court, on water hazards, included that the government had taken measures in this regard.

To another call attention notice tabled by MQM-Pakistan MPA Muhammad Hussain Khan regarding releasing of funds under Community Development Programme, Shoro said that the matter does not belong to his department.

The minister to another call attention notice of MQM-Pakistan MPA Muhammad Yousuf Shahwani, said that the administration of District West has been changed and let it be given some time to take positions and deal with issues of the area.

The house once again experienced rumpus when the issue of WASA employees’ salaries was raised through a call attention notice by MQM-Pakistan MPA Engineer Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani who said that due to strike by the employees, citizens suffer.

Jam Khan Shoro replying to the notice said that MQM destroyed the WASA by hiring too much staff and despite that the government is trying to improve the institutions.
