The Punjab Healthcare Commission has registered over 33,000 small and large hospitals, basic health units, clinics of doctors, homoeopaths, hakeems, and pathological and radiological diagnostic centres, and issued 18,000 licences to them.

This was stated by Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) Chief Operating Officer Dr Ajmal Khan while talking to the APP here on Sunday.

He said that at present 47,000 hospitals, basic health units, doctors’ clinics, laboratories, hakeems and homoeopaths were operating in Punjab. He said that the PHC was trying to register all stakeholders as soon as possible.

Explaining the procedure, Dr Ajmal said that within 14 days of receiving any application from a hospital, doctor, or homeopath, the PHC issues conditional registration after a physical verification and evaluation of the health facility.

He said that the PHC arranges training and capacity building of the persons on minimum service delivery standards, and after that, the final registration and license is issued.

The official said that the commission had so far imparted training to more than 9,000 persons affiliated with medicine.

He also disclosed that more than 1,000 complaints had also been received by the PHC on which action had been taken against a number of senior doctors and hospitals.
