ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, on Saturday, chaired a meeting to review progress on initiatives taken by the present management of NAB at the NAB Headquarter.
While addressing the meeting, he said that “corruption is the mother of all evils”.
NAB is committed to rooting out corruption by adopting a zero-tolerance policy against corruption as it is one of the major hurdles in the progress and prosperity of the country, he added.
He said that NAB had chalked out a comprehensive proactive National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) of awareness, prevention and enforcement.
NAB, during the last 3 years, recovered Rs 45/- billion which is a record achievement. The figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations are almost double as compared to the same period of 2015 to 2016, he said.
He said that the comparative figures for the latest two and half years were indicative of the hard work being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where the fight against corruption was being taken as a national duty.
The increase in the number of complaints also reflects enhanced public trusted in the NAB, he added.
Zaman said that NAB has established its first Forensic Science Lab in NAB Rawalpindi which has facilities of digital forensics, questioned documents and fingerprint analysis. NAB has rationalised its workload and timelines have been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases putting a maximum limit of 10 months – from complaint verification-to-inquiry-to-investigation and finally to a reference in the Accountability Court, he added.
He said that NAB has undertaken a number of strategic initiatives aimed at rejuvenation of the organisation.
The Organogram was revisited to transform NAB into an efficient and responsive organisation, he said.
NAB has devised a Quantifiable Grading System (QGS) to monitor the performance of all Regions of NAB on annual basis. From 2015, under Quantifiable Grading System (QGS) NAB is also operating a fair and effective Internal Accountability annual inspection of all regional NAB’s and NAB headquarter is being done in order to know their strengths and weaknesses, he added.
NAB has also introduced a Management (IAM) System for its officers and staff. A web-based Monitoring and Evaluation System (MES) has also been implemented. The work output of each and every investigation officer is reflected on the executive dashboard at all the executive levels, he concluded.
