Criminals and their abettors be prosecuted: CCPO

Not only criminals but their abettors should also be prosecuted and put behind bars, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tareen said on Monday. He said this while assigning a special task to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigation Ali Amir Malik and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Abdul Razzaq Cheema to arrest proclaimed offenders and people involved in other heinous crimes.
On direction of the Lahore CCPO, Investigation Police have claimed to arrest 50 criminals of 11 gangs and recovered stolen property worth Rs 20 million during the last 15 days of April while 702 proclaimed offenders were also arrested during this period. Police also recovered 20 stolen cars and 58 motorcycles from possession of the criminals.
Challans of 20 cases of murder, three cases of kidnapping for ransom, four cases of dacoity and 31 cases of robbery were presented. Tareen ordered officers that special attention should be paid to unearth cases of terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, dacoity, murder, jaga tax and arrest proclaimed offenders. He directed Lahore Police to keep a watchful eye on social crimes and take action against elements patronising land mafia.
The CCPO said that every policeman will have to play an effective role in eradiation of crimes and protection of life and property of citizens. Tareen said that policemen adopting negative attitude towards citizens and indulging in illegal arrests or torture in police stations would not be tolerated. He urged policemen to take action against gangs involved in heinous crimes in the city.
